What Volume I covers
Volume I covers the core practice: how an operator perceives the state of an operation across all eight domains, and why competent operators misread it. It is not domain instruction. That is what the standard and the later volumes are for.
What this book is not
Purchase of this book is not required in order to sit any National Board of Operations Professionals assessment and confers no advantage. The assessment is built from the published standard, not from this book.
The author of this book does not write assessment items, does not see them, does not sit on scoring, and does not adjudicate individual results. Items come from the standards committee. The full standard is published free, so everything an assessment covers can be read without buying anything.
It is a way to learn the work. It is not a way to pass.
Where it sits
Volume I is the core practice. Volumes II to VI apply the standard inside a single endorsement niche each, and are named exactly as the endorsements are named. They are deliberately unwritten until the job task analysis closes and domain weighting is published, because NBOP has committed to publishing findings that contradict its own draft.
